Recycling Centres Each household generates garbage or waste day in and day out. Items that we do not have any further use for fall in the category of solid waste, and we tend to throw them away. Learning the correct methods of handling the waste we generate has become essential. Solid waste generated in households and commercial enterprises can be
recycled and reused to reduce the amount of waste we have to bury in landfills. In addition to the Recycle Centres located in Olds, Sundre, Cremona, Didsbury, Carstairs, and Eagle Hill, the Commission provides recycling bins at all Transfer Stations (Olds, Sundre, Water Valley, and the Landfill northwest of Didsbury). The Commission collects the recycled goods and delivers them to the Olds Transfer Site, the primary centre for the handling, sorting, baling and shipping of recycled materials. For specific locations and maps to our Recycling Centres, visit our Maps page. Acceptable items for all our Recycling Centres include: - Mixed Plastics
- Cardboard and Boxboard
- Newspaper
- Mixed Paper
- Food (tin) Cans
- Clear Glass
For beverage container recycling depots in the region, please see our Resources & Links page. While the Commission has buyers for the baled recycled materials, revenues collected from the sale of recycled materials do not cover the cost of collecting and processing. The member municipalities subsidize recycling through the recycle funding assessment. Much of the paper we recycle is used to make construction materials such as gypsum board, insulation, and roofing materials. Don't throw it away - Recycle!
