Town of Carstairs The Commission provides roll out bin pickup of household solid waste on a bi-weekly basis. Roll out bins are supplied to residents by the town. The Carstairs recycle centre is open to both urban and rural residents. The Town offers back yard composters to residents and supplies an outside contractor bin for organic yard waste at the recycle centre during the summer months. Household hazardous waste disposal and recycling is made available to Carstairs residents at all Transfer Site locations.
Village of Cremona The Commission provides household pickup bi-weekly. The Village provides rollout bins that are emptied by the Commission's truck, and transported to the landfill. A recycling depot at Cremona, open to both Village and County residents, is operated by the Commission and provides for collection of recyclables. The Village is responsible for the maintenance and upkeep of the recycling site. Compost is collected by the Village and on request, the Commission trucks the compost to the Olds College. Household hazardous waste disposal and recycling is made available to Cremona residents at all Transfer Site locations.
Town of Didsbury The Town of Didsbury receives household solid waste collection bi-weekly with the collection of compost (organics) on weeks between household waste collections. Roll out bins are supplied by the town. Additionally, the Commission collects waste bins from multi-family and municipal building sites in 1½ and 3 yard bins for waste transported to the landfill. A recycling depot at Didsbury, open to both Town and County residents, is operated by the Commission and provides for the collection of recyclables. The Town is responsible for the maintenance and upkeep of the recycling site. The Mountain View Regional Waste Landfill site is located two (2) kilometres northwest of the Town of Didsbury. The Commission operates the landfill under registration approval of Alberta Environment. The approval authorizes the disposal of Class II and Class III waste in isolated cells. Site construction began in October 2004 with the installation of an engineered liner; a leachate collection system; a surface drainage retention pond, and monitoring wells. The landfill requires ongoing capital cell expansion to accommodate waste volumes. All solid waste generated within the County is accepted at the landfill and all solid waste accepted at Commission transfer sites is hauled with Commission trucks to the landfill. A waste drop area (transfer site) for residential disposal is provided for the public. A recycling depot is located at the transfer station and accepts all recycling materials and household hazardous waste from within the County boundary. Household hazardous waste disposal and recycling is made available to Didsbury residents at all Transfer Site locations.
Eagle Hill Recycling for rural residents is available at Eagle Hill.
Mountain View County Rural residents rent approximately 630 bins located in locations throughout the county. These bins are made available for residents of the county to deposit their household solid waste and are picked up by the Commission on a four (4) or eight (8) week cycle by the Commission. Recycling for rural residents is available at Eagle Hill, all municipal recycle centres and at all transfer stations. In addition, annual round-ups are held to collect agricultural plastics and strand wire. However, all plastic and wire are accepted year-round.
Town of Olds The Town of Olds receives household solid waste collection bi-weekly with the collection of compost (organics) on weeks between household waste collections. Roll out bins are supplied by the town. There are two recycling depots at Olds, open to both Town and County residents that are operated by the Commission and provide for the collection of recyclables. The Town is responsible for the maintenance and upkeep of the recycling sites. Additional 3 yard compost bins are placed throughout the town between April 1 and October 31 each year for the collection of organic yard waste. The Olds transfer station is owned and operated by the Commission. In addition to residential solid waste, the transfer site also accepts recycling materials and household hazardous waste from within the County boundary. At the Olds station, solid waste is sorted into Class II (wet) or Class III (dry) compacted and prepared for transportation to the landfill. Transportation is completed using Commission trucks. This station is equipped with a horizontal baler and therefore provides the primary storage, baling and shipping operations for the Commission recycling program.
Town of Sundre The Town of Sundre receives household solid waste collection bi-weekly with the collection of compost on weeks between household waste collections. Roll out bins are supplied by the town. A recycling depot at Sundre, open to both Town and County residents, is operated by the Commission and provides for the collection of recyclables. The Town is responsible for the maintenance and up-keep of the recycling site. The sorted Class II/III waste from the Sundre transfer station is transported to the Commission landfill. A recycling depot is located at the transfer station and accepts all recycling materials and household hazardous waste from within the County boundary.
Water Valley Transfer Station The sorted Class II/III waste from the Water Valley transfer station is transported to the landfill. A recycling depot is located at the transfer station and accepts all recycling materials and household hazardous waste from within the County boundary.
